Hey everyone and welcome back to the blog! Recently my husband and I did a DNA test on our sweet pup Bella. We adopted Bella in June, and we were told she was a lab husky mix however, we have never been convinced with what we were told. I wrote a blog about our adoption story with Bella, it's liked here if you want to check it out. I'm so excited to share our experience using the Embark DNA test!
I ordered our test through Amazon, it's on prime so I got it in 2 days. We chose to just to the breed identification. Embark has another test that does not only breed identification but a health screening that can test what health issues they may be prone to. Once our kit came it had very clear instructions on what to do/how to swab our pup. Just be aware, they can't eat for 30 minutes prior to being swabbed so hold off on treats until after you swab them.
Once we swabbed Bella, we dropped in it in the mailbox and waited. I'll share a timeline with you so you're able to see roughly how long it took to get our results and the overall timeline. September 3rd; swab in the mail. September 8; swab received. September 15th; started processing. September 25th; genotyping. September 26th; RESULTS ARE READY! The whole process took 3 weeks, which is awesome and within the time frame that they had stated they would take.
This process was long, but it states that it will take 2-4 weeks for your results once the lab receives the swab. It was totally worth the wait, and it was fun to see the process as I got email updates on the progress of her swab and where we are in the test process.
Overall, we really enjoyed this experience and will recommend this to anybody who asks. I have a referral link if you want to try this on your adopted pups.
