Hey everyone! I'm officially a nurse, I passed my NCLEX! So that makes me a LPN!
It's so exciting seeing my dreams finally coming true and making them a reality! It definitely has made all of the hard work worth every minute of it.
I wanted to write this post not only to share my excitement, but to also help out all of the students out there trying to get into nursing, or is in a program and hesitant or nervous about taking their boards. I'm sure what everyone is waiting to find out is how I studied for the exam. If I'm being honest, I didn't study as much as I wanted to before the exam. My nursing program tests us NCLEX style throughout the school year, so learning and understanding how to read the questions all year long definitely helped. To study rather than sitting and reviewing information, and subject after subject and drilling all the information I could into my head I focused on the areas I struggled with. During school I struggled on my cardiac and maternity exams, so that's the information I tried to quiz myself on the most to continue to learn how to answer the questions better.
I purchased the Saunders comprehensive review NCLEX-PN book to study from. My program requires the RN version, so I purchased the PN version so I would only be studying information that I would see on my exam. I think this helped mentally so I wouldn't get overwhelmed by questions I flat out didn't know the answers to while studying for my exam.
I did not study the day before my exam. I took the day off and tried to relax, other than going to work. I woke up the day of my exam, I didn't look at any study material either. I made breakfast and got ready. Then I left with plenty of time to get there so I wouldn't risk being late. I was so early I waited in the car for a couple hours, which I'd rather do than to miss my exam.
The best advice I could give to you whether you're a future nursing student working on prerequisites, a nursing student nervous about your boards, or someone just reading this post is to never give up. I've been told so many times that I wasn't good enough, or that I couldn't do it. Now look at me, I have my LPN, starting again for my RN, I'm succeeding and so close to my goals. Always push yourself, and always work toward your goals. Never give up, and never let someone tell you that you aren't good enough.
