Hey everyone and welcome back to the blog! I'm so excited to share with you details from our honeymoon. We keep talking about how we can't wait to go back to Hawaii. It truly felt like paradise, and was so relaxing. Keep reading to hear more about what we did on our honeymoon!
We stayed at Hale Koa Hotel. You have to be military to stay here, and the prices were such a good deal. We got discounts on nearly everything which was nice. Our hotel wasn't all inclusive, so we got snacks when we got there, and kept some drinks in our fridge also. I would 100% stay here again. It was well worth the money I thought, and we never had any issues with the hotel itself. We've also had friends stay here who recommended this hotel to us. We occasionally would enjoy happy hour at Biba's in the hotel, we're suckers for a good happy hour. We felt the happy hour menu food wise was right up our alley, so we did this a few times. We also went to a luau at our hotel, once again we couldn't beat that price, although I wish we had booked it before we got there so we could've had better seats. We had a good time, they had some traditional activities you could do before everything started. Sean really got into these, although he had been drinking mai tai's all day long.
We decided we would each pick something we both really wanted to do on our honeymoon and no matter what we had to do it together. Of course, I chose snorkeling with sea turtles. We did a tour with pink sails waikiki. This was so much fun, and I couldn't have enjoyed it more than I did. Sea turtles are amazing, and snorkeling inches away from them was a dream come true. One was inches away from me, literally inches. I'm so glad we have the go pro and have it all on footage to look back on. It was so amazing to just watch them swim.
My husband wanted to do a shark cage tour. I was so skeptical and terrified honestly. We've all seen movies gone wrong where the cage falls to the ocean floor. We did this with North Shore Shark Adventure. Our cage was tied to a reef I believe, and then to the boat. It also had an open top, and wasn't totally enclosed. We were snorkeling in this cage, so we weren't fully submerged underwater. I was pleasantly surprised at how safe I felt, but also had an adrenaline rush. It was a lot of fun. We were snorkeling with Galapagos sharks, which were ranging 10-15 ft long. This was so much fun, and Sean lived for every minute of it. I would definitely go back and do another tour they offer, as they offer several. We also saw a Barracuda in the water when we got to the cage site, thankfully we were safe in the boat. We got some good footage on the go pro from this adventure as well. I'm glad everything we had planned allowed us to take photos and videos because I wanted memories to look back on down the road.
Now, we booked these two activities with groupon. It saved us some money, which was really nice. Before you book things this way, I'd check on the website to ensure they have openings during the time you'll be somewhere. The websites show calendars and you're able to double check that they have openings. Groupon is tricky so make sure you double check especially if you're booking something away from your home town. Also make sure your location is set to your destination location to ensure you're booking where you're traveling.
We didn't have a car our entire stay in Hawaii. We decided to Uber whenever we went places as we just wanted to relax most of the time. We did rent a car on the day we did our shark swim through Turo. This is an app you can download onto your phone. It's like air bnb but for cars. You rent a car from a local, and return it. It was simple and easy to use and we plan to do this in the future as well when we vacation as we don't always need a car the entire time we are staying somewhere. I recommend this app to anyone who is going out of town and needs a car but doesn't want to rent one their entire vacation.
We can't wait to go back to Hawaii, and try new things. We didn't plan out anything in advance other than our few activities. We just planned to relax and go with the flow. We didn't want to feel like we were on a time schedule. I had places in mind that I had researched, I found things on Youtube that people had done, I also found things on Pinterest. There was a short hike I wanted to do one morning, but we ended up sleeping in instead. I'm so glad this is how we spent our honeymoon, just relaxing. I had some things in mind so we could have ideas if we wanted to do something. But you can't beat a nice sandy beach, and ocean in front of you to just relax at.
